Organic Furniture Finish on Southern Elegances Old Wood Furniture
We hand pick lumber in complementary color tones to create your one of a kind Old Wood furniture. We then lightly hand sand to remove some of the rough exterior but still maintaining the woods natural rustic beauty. We do not use a wide belt sander as this would destroy the look of the old wood making it too smooth and flat. The wood still has visible saw marks, gouges, knots, nails and is rough to the touch. These imperfections all add to the natural character of the old wood.
We only use organic finishing on our reclaimed wood furniture. Six to ten coats of 100% pure Tung Oil is rubbed in by hand until the desired level of saturation is reached. The Tung Oil creates a beautiful as well as protective finish. This hand rubbing of the finish really brings out the natural beauty of the wood’s patina.
Pure Tung Oil is one of the first truly "Green" finishes. It is all natural and contains zero VOC's. Pure Tung oil (China wood oil) is an all natural finishing product that provides a tough, flexible and highly water-resistant protective barrier and coating. Tung oil builds quickly, consolidates the wood surface and builds a transparent matte finish. A Pure Tung Oil is an all natural organic finish that is environmentally safe and food safe. We often mix our Tung oil with 100% natural Citrus Solvent. Your purchase of this coffee table comes with a bottle of Tung Oil to assist with cleaning and spill ups that may occur. A light renewal coat of Tung Oil is recommended 1-2 times a year.
The legs of our reclaimed wood furniture are offered painted in a variety of Milk Paint colors. Milk Paint is an an environmentally friendly paint that is ideal for furniture. Finally a light wax is applied to the outside of the old wood furniture to bring a nice finishing touch. The bottom of salvaged wood furniture is finished the same as the top to allow for an even absorption of humidity to prevent warping or cracking of the wood.
